Last October 9-10, 2012, BFAR-NFRDI hosted its 4th Scientific Conference with the theme "Sustainable Fisheries through Science" at the Bureau of Soils and Water Management, Quezon City. The conference aims to provide a venue for fisheries stakeholders to come together to present the status of the country's fisheries and discuss current researches and technologies geared towards best practices in fisheries. The conference will also help identify gaps and needs in fisheries research and development in relation to the growing problem of sustainable fisheries. The said conference consisted of plenary for keynote speeches, parallel sessions for specific sub-themes, and poster presentation. Scientists from UP-MSI, NFRDI, SEAFDEC, and other research enthusiasts geared towards presentation of current trends in fisheries studies and researches for manoeuvring sustainable management and development of fisheries sector in the country. Dr. Melchor M. Tayamen, OIC of NFRDI, anticipated that "[NFRDI] will be able to carry out this theme, as being practiced and manifested by the researchers of the Institute. It is in our sturdy commitment and relentless quest to achieve our primary goal that brings our drive to continuously provide quality service and transform the fisheries sector as the key engine of the country's agriculture sector."
